This series is everything I remember it being (except I do remember it being animated better, but I was 6 - what the hell did I know)? I remember specific episodes, plot lines - even songs are familiar. Clearly, this series left its mark. And it’s so much fun to revisit. Already, Jem and her friends have won the Battle of the Bands, stopped world hunger, made a fashion book, saved an orphan’s sight, made their own successful movie, taught me about peer pressure, taught me that running away from home is bad and dangerous, taught me all about China, and put on about a gazillion concerts. IS THERE NOTHING THEY CAN’T DO??????
The funniest part is that I didn’t really expect to have so much fun watching it. I was really excited to receive it - it was a part of my childhood, and I looked forward to having it sit on my DVD shelf. I figured that we would watch a couple of episodes before losing interest. I never expected to be over 12 hours into it and still interested. I don’t know if we’ll make it through all 65 episodes (I know, right???), but for the moment, we’re still going strong. Saturday morning Jem watching is becoming a tradition in our apartment, complete with Cap’n Crunch breakfast and everything!
Seriously - who wouldn’t want to start a Saturday with this???
